Gandhinagar: BJP national president JP Nadda on Tuesday flagged off the e-bikes for Namo Kisan Panchayat programme in Gandhinagar to kick off his two-day visit to Gujarat, which is close to going to the polls.
Nadda celebrated PM Modi for initiating the welfare programmes for farmers that the Central government had implemented at the time.
"Although none of the leaders took action for the farmers, they all skillfully utilised their names. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the one who has actually taken action for farmers in independent India" he said.
The BJP leader listed the programmes for farmers before saying that the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana was one of the ways the Modi government supported the underprivileged during the pandemic.
"When the tragedy occurred a century ago, famine claimed more lives than sickness. The worst catastrophe of the 20th century was the corona pandemic. Through the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, Prime Minister Modi strove to support the underprivileged by providing 5 kg of wheat, 5 kg of rice, and 5 kg of pulses to 80 crore people. The scheme is still active today" he said.
"Nobody gave the farmers any thought. However, as part of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, PM Modi handled the task of transferring Rs 6,000 annually to the accounts of more than 11 crore farmers. Six times more money has been allocated to farmers' expenses" Nadda said.
The BJP head exuded confidence in the work being done for farmers by the BJP governments in the state and at the federal level, saying that party leaders can confidently address the public.
"Some people have always worked in politics on behalf of farmers. However, BJP has made an effort to lessen farmers' suffering by getting to know them. I can state with certainty that only BJP leaders are able to appear before the public and claim," he said.
Nadda will take part in a large road show in Morbi town later in the day.
Nadda will hold organisational meetings at the state party headquarters in Gandhinagar on the second day of his visit. The state party leadership will provide him with a thorough evaluation of the preparations for the upcoming assembly elections later this year.
On the second day of his tour, Nadda will also speak at a meeting of academics and teachers from various academic institutions. He will discuss the BJP's vision for the nation and the advancements the Modi administration has made in the field of education.
Nadda will also speak during the closing session of the state capital's mayors conference. At the two-day conference being held in Gujarat, mayors from states where the BJP controls the government will take part. During the events, Nadda will be joined by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and BJP state president CR Patil.
In the Gujarat elections later this year, the BJP will run for a sixth term in power. Narendra Modi, the BJP's longest-serving Chief Minister, ruled Gujarat for more than 27 years, from 2001 to 2014.
