Gujarat police nab 5 accused after Dalits thrashed for entering temple

Ahmedabad: A Dalit family was beaten up by some people in Kutch, Gujarat, only because they had gone to the temple to see God. Police have registered a case against 20 persons in this regard. Five accused have also been taken into custody. Six members of a Dalit family were allegedly attacked by a group of 20 people three days ago in a village under Bhachau taluka of Gandhidham town in Kutch. After which Gujarat police have detained five accused in this regard till Friday evening.

The injured have claimed that during an event organised by another community in the temple, they have been systematically targeted after entering the Ram temple. Police said it is investigating the allegations made by the victims. Giving details of the case, police said, six persons have been admitted to Bhuj civil hospital after the attack. They were stabbed in the head and other parts with sharp weapons in the attack. According to police, two attacks took place in Ner village of Bhachau taluka on the morning of October 26, in which a group of 20 people first attacked the Dalit family among cattle and fields and then entered their house.

In the first incident, victim Govind Vaghela claimed that he came to know at around 10 am on October 26 that some cattle had entered his field. The victim Vaghela said, "He asked us why we entered the Ram temple on October 20, when a prestige function was going on." They snatched my cell phone and ransacked the autorickshaw so that we could not seek help. Told me they were going to the village to kill my father. But the police rescued us, also took us to the hospital.
