Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt as the lead pair, has entered the Rs 100 crore-club by the end of its extended first week at the box-office. On Thursday, the film added Rs 5.10 crore more to its kitty to reach a respectable figure of Rs 100.30 crore. While metros continue to drive the film’s business, mass pockets remain ordinary, which explains why Gully Boytook eight long days to go past the Rs 100 crore-mark. Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh, in a tweet he posted on Friday, summed up the box-office collections of Gully Boy. See it here:

Keeping in view the current trend, Gully Boy will maintain a decent hold on ticket windows. The new release Total Dhamaal, headlined by Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit, will obviously be the first choice of moviegoers but since its audience is starkly different from that of Gully Boy, the business of the latter will not be affected.

At its heart, Gully Boy is the story of an underdog who has a dream. It draws from the lives of Dharavi-based street rappers Divine and Naezy. The two musicians have also contributed to the film’s soundtrack.

Gully Boy, co-written and directed by Zoya Akhtar, met with huge acclaim from movie critics across the country. The word of mouth, too, was favourable that immensely helped its performance at the box-office.
