On Birthday of Guru Gobind Singh Ji

Going by the life and their work ,some great people, it amply suggest that they are God sent, for the service of the Mankind.

Guru Gobind Singh the tenth Guru of Sikh religion was one such great personality. Born to ninth Guru Teg bahadur and Mata Gujri at Patna sahib on December 22nd , 1666. His teachings and organizational skills gave shape to the Sikhism as it is in present day.

Early Life:- After execution of Guru Teg bahadur ninth guru by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb Guru Gobind singh became the tenth sikh guru. He was only nine years old at that time. He was an avid learner , learnt many languages including Urdu, Sanskrit, Hindi, Braj, Gurumukhi and Persian. He was equally perfect at martial arts, horse riding who later become a great warrior as well. After scuffle with local Bhimchand he proceeded from hometown Anandpur Sahib to Nahan , a place in the hills of Himachal Pradesh on the invitation of the then, King of Sirmur. From there he next proceeded to Paonta a town besides river Yamuna, and founded a Gurudwara, named Paonta Sahib, which remains important piligrimage for Sikhs.

Life as a Warrior:- At the age of 19 Guru Gobind Singh fought battle of Bhangani against Joint force of Garhwal King Fateh Khan, Bhimchand and other local Kings in which Guru defeated allied forces. Description of this battle is narrated in Bichitra Natak, a part Dasham granth. This religious text is based on the life of GURU GOBIND SINGH and his work.

Founder of Khalsa:- In 1699 Guru Gobind Singh gathered followers to his home and asked for volunteer to sacrifice his head for the brothers, at his call five of the followers offered their head. These five sikh volunteers were named as Panj Pyare by the Guru. These Panj Pyare named Bhai Daya Singh, Bhai Dharam Singh, Bhai Himat Singh, Bhai Mohkam Singh and Bhai Sahib Singh were the first Sikhs.

Panth Khalsa:- During gathering of 1699 Guru founded the Khalsa Vani. He also introduced the principles of Khalsa- the five K's. These are Kesh, Kangha, Kara, Kacchera and Kripan. These five K's are the five principles of a Khalsa. To protect followers of sikhism from all religions, castes, creeds.

Literary Contribution:- Guru Gobind Singh finalised the Kartarpur Pothi into the Guru Granth Sahib. Other then these Guru also composed the Dasam Granth which includes the Jaap Sahib, Amrit Savaiye and Benti Chaupai. Guru Gobind Singh's all four sons were killed by the mughals and upon this he wrote a letter in Persian to Aurangzeb titled Zafarnama.

Last Days Of Guru:- In 1708 Guru was attacked by the lieutenants of Nawab Wazir Khan at Nanded though both the attackers were killed but Guru Gobind Singh died of injuries on 7 october 1708 before his death Guru said to the Sangat "It is my commandment that Owe Sri Granth Ji in my place". Thus, the 10th Guru passed on succession with due ceremony to the Holy Book, "The Guru Granth Sahib".
