Guru Granth sahib also called Adi Granth is more than just a scripture of the Sikhs for the Sikhs regard and respect the Granth as their living Guru.

In 1708, Guru Gobind Singh Ji the final of human form Sikhs Guru, conferred the Guruship on Guru Granth Sahib. Guru Granth Sahib is regarded as the Sikh’s next and eternal Guru before he passed away. All Sikhs are required to accept the Granth as their Guru, according to Guru Ji's statement “Sab Sikhan ko hukm hai Guru Manyo Granth”. As a result, the Sikhs will tell you they have had a total of 11 Gurus if you ask them today. The Guru Granth Sahib is the immortal Shabad Guru and ten other Gurus in human forms.

Unlike other major religious texts, the Sikhs gurus included writing from other contemporary saints from Islam and Hinduism( including saints from the lowest castes in Hinduism) who rejected caste and superstition and believed in the unity of God. This makes the Guru Granth Sahib unique among the world’s major religious texts. When discussing the veracity of the teaching of the various teachers and prophets of the world as they are known to mankind today, historian scholars have emphasized the fact that the Guru Granth Sahib was composed and compiled by the Sikh Gurus themselves rather than by their adherents and followers.

The Guru Granth Sahib is the primary component of the Darbar Sahib when someone enters Gurudwara. The Holy book is put on a prominent podium and wrapped in a gorgeous piece of quality cloth with eye-catching colors. There is always a canopy over the platform and it is likewise embellished with expensive and gorgeously colored fabrics. The Granth is written in a script known as Gurumukhi which is regarded as a contemporary version of the historic language known as Sanskrit.

The Adi Granth was completed in 1604 and installed in the Golden Temple; Baba Buddha Singh was appointed Guru’s Granthi. Guru Arjan told his Sikhs that the Adi Granth was the embodiment of the Guru, and should be treated in the same fashion as they respect him. When Guru Arjan Dev Ji first completed Adi Granth he placed it upon his own bed and slept on the floor. Its words were written without any spaces or breaks which nowadays is hard for most people to follow.

At Talwandi Sabo, today known as Damdama Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth and last of the Sikh Gurus to assume human form, narrated the entirety of the Granth Sahib. Guru Gobind Singh requested the Adi Granth from Dhir Mal, the son of Baba Gurditta and the grandson of Guru Hargobind, but Dhir Mal refused to give it to the Guru. If you are a Guru, then prepare your own, Dhir Mal mocked the Guru.

The Guru Granth Sahib provides unique and unequaled guidance and advice to the whole of the human race. It is the torch that will lead humanity out of Kaljug, (the dark era) to a life in peace, tranquillity, and spiritual enlightenment for all the nations of the World. The main message can be summarised as:

 All Peoples of the World are Equal

 Women as Equals

 One God for All

 Speak and Live Truthfully

 Control the Five Vices

 Live in God's Hukam

 Practice Humility, Kindness, Compassion, Love, etc.
