Guru Nanak Gurupurab, which is also known as Guru Nanak's Prakash Utsav and Guru Nanak Jayanti, commemorates today in the whole nation. It is the day of the birth of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak. It is one of the most sacred festivals celebrated in India. The auspicious day holds importance in the hearts and minds of the Sikhism followers. Scores of the festivities in the Sikh religion surround the birth anniversaries of the 1- Sikh gurus. Gurupurab, the birthdays of the Sikh gurus are celebrated with grand bliss, enthusiasm, and reverence. It's also an occasion to offer prayers to the Gurus and remember their revered teachings.

Celebrations are particularly vivid on the states Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab among others. Gurupurab marks the most important day in the Sikh calendar. From this day the celebrations start early on in the day with morning processions, called as Prabhat Pheris.

On this occasion President Kovind greeted the whole nation as saying, “Gurpurab greetings to all fellow citizens, especially to our Sikh brothers and sisters in India and abroad. The life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev inspire us to follow the path of peace, compassion and service ‘’.

On the other hand, PM Modi tweeted, “Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught us the path of truth, righteousness and compassion. He was committed towards eradicating injustice and inequality from society. He also believed in the power of education. We bow to him on his Jayanti and recall his inspiring thoughts.”
