Today, the martyrdom day of Guru Teg Bahadur is being celebrated across the country. He was the ninth Guru of the Sikhs to follow the path shown by the first Guru Nanak. 115 verses composed by him are included in Guru Granth Sahib. He had opposed the forced muslimisation of Kashmiri Pandits and other Hindus.
In 1675, mughal ruler Aurangzeb asked him to convert to Islam, but Guru Saheb said he could cut lead and not hair. With this, Agamboola Aurangzeb cut off guruji's head in front of everyone. Gurudwara Shish Ganj Sahib and Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib are the places where Guruji was killed and where he was cremated. Guru Teg Bahadur Saheb has a unique place in world history among those who sacrificed their lives to protect religion and human values, ideals and principles.
Guru Teg Bahadurji's sacrifice against the anti-religious and ideological freedom-suppressing policies of the Attai ruler Aurangzeb was an unprecedented historic event. It was the highest example of Guru Teg Bahadur's fearless conduct, religious firmness and moral generosity. Guruji was a revolutionary age man who made his great sacrifice for human religion and ideological freedom.
