UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urged for a green and inclusive tourism rebound in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak. "UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) plays a critical role in rethinking tourism and its interactions with society, economies, natural resources, and ecosystems as we restart and recover from the epidemic. That means green tourism, with high-emitting sectors like aviation and shipping aiming for carbon neutrality "In a video address to the UNWTO's General Assembly on Tuesday, the top UN official stated.

"It refers to tourism that supports underserved communities while also promoting gender equality and intercultural understanding. It also refers to sustainable tourism, which promotes resilience, protects the environment, and contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development "According to the secretary-general.

According to sources, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed the hope that the choices made at this Assembly "would help to restore trust in travel and get the globe moving securely, so that developing economies can reap the benefits of sustainable tourism."

From November 30 to December 3, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) will convene its 24th General Assembly in Madrid, Spain. The UNWTO's General Assembly is the organization's major gathering and the venue for member states to adopt the organization's work programme and budget for the coming biennium (2022-2023).
