Guwahati Police Arrested Six, Seizes Heroin

A senior official stated on Sunday that the Guwahati Police had recovered 1.75 kg of heroin worth 14 crores from two separate locations and detained at least six drug peddlers.

According to Guwahati Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh, the narcotics were recovered during operations late Saturday night after the police received information from their sources. "We had two drug busts in separate sections of the city yesterday night. We seized around 1.3 kilograms of heroin in the first case. Around 450 grams of heroin were confiscated in the second operation," he added. Commissioner Singh estimated that the market value of the medicines would be about 14 crores.

Meanwhile, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma praised Guwahati Police for their efforts in preventing drug smuggling and apprehending peddlers. "We are committed to putting an end to the drug trade. So far, we've made 6 arrests in this case... With new tactics, the drug cartels couldn't fool the cops" CM Sarma tweeted.
