Varanasi: New claims are being made about 'Shivling' in the disputed Gyanvapi Mosque located in Varanasi, the city of Baba Vishwanath. However, after the report of the Advocate Commissioner, it is yet to be proved that the figure is Shivling. Last week, in the Gyanvapi-Vishwanath temple case, Vadmitra Vijay Shankar Rastogi from the temple side claimed the Shivling found in the Vazukhana to be Tarakeswar Mahadev, then now Madhan Janardan Ratate, Professor of Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has called it Nandikeshwar. Shivling is mentioned.

According to Professor Madhav Janardan Ratate of the Faculty of Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan at BHU, the figure seen in the Vazukhana is the Shivling. There is no doubt about it. He told that now which Shivling could it be, the question is? There is a problem in considering this Shivling as the old Shivling of Kashi Visheshwar, because it is said that a priest had jumped into Gyanvapi about that Shivling and Narayan Bhatt should have installed such a huge Shivling of Kashi Visheshwar. I also have problem.

Secondly, there may be a possibility that the Shivalinga found in the Vajukhana is of Avimukteshwar, but the third strong possibility is of Nandikeshwar. Because in the Kashi section, just to the north of Gyanvapi, the place of a Gana named Nandi is mentioned and there is also a mention of Nandikeshwar established by him. Apart from Kashi block, it is also mentioned in the act Kalpataru that near Gyanvapi, the great Nandi which was founded by the King of Nepal, is Gyanvapi and this Shivalinga is found to be just north of Gyanvapi, so definitely the Shivling found in the Vajujkhana should be of Nandikeshwar.
