Hailstorm Alert in Odisha: IMD Issues Warning For 8 Districts

 The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar on Saturday, April 4, issued rainfall, lightning and hailstorm alerts for as many as eight districts of Odisha in the next two hours.

As per Meteorological Department, moderate thunderstorm allied with hail,  wind speed reaching 40 to  50 kilometre per hour.  Besides, lightning and light to moderate rain are likely to hit some parts of districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangapur, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Rayagada and Koraput, for which people may remain vigilant.

Under its impact minor damage to loose and unsecured structures, banana trees and standing crops may occur.

People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places accordingly.

IMD Statement: “The depression over north Andaman Sea & neighbourhood moved north-north-eastwards and weakened into a Well Marked Low-Pressure Area over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining south Myanmar coast at 11:30 hrs IST of today, the 03rd April, 2021”.

“ It is likely to weaken further into a Low-Pressure Area over the same region during next 12 hours. Under its influence, scattered light to moderate rainfall very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 24 hours. The fishermen are advised not to venture into north Andaman Sea owing to the likely prevalence of occasional squally weather over the region during next 12 hours.”
