Visakhapatnam: Amid continued tension with China over the Line of Actual Control (LAC), news that hair smuggling from the famous Tirupati temple in South India is taking place to China. On a large scale, these hairs are being transported from the north-eastern states to China via Myanmar. Recently, Assam rifles had seized a large consignment of hair worth Rs 1.80 crore in Mizoram near the Myanmar border.

Assam Rifles sources told a private news channel that the Tirupati temple is illegally transporting hair to China. These hair wigs are made in China. These wigs are sent to south-eastern countries. Last month, in the month of February, Assam rifles, with the help of the customs department, had caught two trucks carrying hair from Champai district of Mizoram. The two trucks had about 120 bags with hair filled. In the investigation, it was revealed that the hair had arrived in Mizoram from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. These hairs were to be smuggled from Mizoram to China. The Assam Rifles had also arrested a smuggler in the raids.

Devotees donate their hair to the Tirupati temple. Due to which a large amount of hair accumulates here. Talking to the media, The Commanding Officer (CO) of the Assam Rifles 46th Battalion in Mizoram, Vipalp Tripathi said that due to the 'porous border between India and Mizoram, smugglers try to smuggle drugs, gold, and hair. But the Assam Rifles is fully committed to curbing such activities.
