People across India will celebrate Chhath tomorrow on 9 August 2020. This festival is called Radhan Chhath in Gujarat and Hal Chhath in North India. It occurs in the month of Bhadrapad. Bhadrapada has started on 4th August. In North India, it is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna's elder brother Balaram, while in Gujarat it is celebrated as Radhan Chhath.

On this day, Sheetla Mata, who protects the child, is worshipped. Now today we are going to tell you about it. People of Gujarat celebrate this festival prominently. It is said that on this day, Sheetla Mata is worshipped. Sheetla Saptami is celebrated the next day of Radhan Chhath and on this day, people do not eat fresh food instead they consume stale food. This is a very old tradition. Due to this, on the day of Radhan Chhath, women cook and keep the food for the next day, and then on the next day, after listening to the story in the temple, they eat cold pre-made food.

Now talking about North India, this Chhath coming before Janmashtami is celebrated as Hal Shashthi. It is said that on this day, women keep a fast to wish for better health and longevity of children. Apart from this, women do not consider it appropriate to consume anything ploughed. The day of Hal Chhath is dedicated to Balram and his main weapon was the plough, due to which ploughed food is not consumed on this day. Lord Balarama is worshipped as an incarnation of Sheshnag.
