Halle [Germany], June 25 (NT):  World no. 2 Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer experienced a shocking defeat to Croatia's Borna Coric in the final of the Halle Open on Sunday.

 The 21-year-old Borna Coric, won 7-6 (8-6) 3-6 6-2 to end Federer’s the run of 20 consecutive wins on grass.

Wimbledon champion Federer who is now 36 years old, was bidding to get a win in the event for the 10th time and secure his 99th career title caption into Wimbledon next week.

The overcome means Spaniard Rafael Nadal will take over as world number one ranking.

Coric claimed his first grass court title in a little over two hours. On a related note, this was his first victory over Federer in their third career meetings.

 Worth mention here Croatian had started the tournament by crushing world No. 3 Alexander Zverev of Germany, and finished by disallowing Federer to claim his 99th career title.

Now Coric has become only the sixth player to beat Federer in a grass court final. With this win, He has joined Novak Djokovic of Serbia, Britain's Andy Murray, Spain's Rafael Nadal, Germany's Tommy Haas and Australia's Lleyton Hewitt. (NT)
