Islamabad: One constable was killed and another injured when an unidentified man hurled grenades at a police team during regular patrolling in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday. Peshawar police chief Ehsan Abbas said a team of rapid response forces carrying out regular patrolling was attacked at the time of the incident on the university route near Karkhano Bazar in tribal-dominated Khyber district.

According to reports, the police team accompanying the Assistant Commissioner had arrested a shopkeeper from Karkhano Market for violating the Covid Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Police said the shopkeeper was being taken to the police station in a van when an unidentified person threw a grenade at the vehicle in which one policeman lost his life and another was injured.

Security teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident and cordoned off the entire area. A team bomb disposal squad has been called in to ascertain the cause of the blast. Abbas said it was too early to comment on the nature of the blast.
