Swedish environmental activist, internationally known for challenging world leaders to take immediate action against climate change. Greta Thunberg initially received notice in both public and political leaders and assemblies for her youthful and upright speaking manner, in which she criticized world leaders for what they thought was enough action to overcome the climate crisis.

Thunberg's activism began after convincing her parents to adopt several lifestyle choices to reduce their own carbon footprint. In August 2018, at the age of 15, she began spending her school days outside the Swedish Parliament to sign up to take action on climate change by signing up to read the Scelastrekök Kellimät (School Strike for Climate). Soon, other students engaged in similar protests in their communities. Together, they organized a school climate strike movement under the name Friday for Future. After Thunberg addressed the 2018 United Nations Climate Change Conference, student attacks occurred every week somewhere in the world. In 2019, several coordinated multi-city protests were held in each of one lakh students. To avoid flight, Thunberg flew to North America where she attended the 2019 United Nations Climate Action Summit. Her speech there, in which she said "how dare you", was widely taken by the press and included in the music.

Her sudden rise to world fame has made her a leader and a target for critics. Her influence on the world stage has been described by The Guardian and other newspapers as the "Greta Effect". She has received numerous honours and awards, including an honorary fellowship from the Royal Scottish Geographic Society, which ranks among the 100 Most Influential People of the Time, being the youngest person of the year, 100 Most Powerful Women in the World (2019) of Forbes. Two consecutive nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize (2019 and 2020).
