Karthik Shivakumar, the actor's real name is Karthik Shivakumar, while he has also won three Filmfare Awards South, an Edison Award, a SIIMA Award and a Tamil Nadu State Film Award. The younger brother of actor Surya and the youngest son of actor Sivakumar, Karthik initially joined Mani Ratnam as an assistant director. He was offered acting roles and in 2007 he made his acting debut in Parutiveeran, which garnered several accolades, including critical acclaim and the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

His next role was that of a porter in the action-adventure film Aayirathil Oruvan (2010), directed by Selyaraghavan. He went on to have commercial successes with his later releases - Paia (2010), Naan Mahayan Alla (2010) and Siruthai (2011). After appearing in a series of box office flops, he starred in successful films like Madras (2014), Oopiri (2016), Theran Adhiagaram Ondru (2017), Kadikutty Singam (2018) and Kathy (2019). Apart from his film career, Karthik has also been involved in social welfare activities, encouraging fans to do the same through "Makal Nala Mandram", a social welfare club which he inaugurated. In 2011, he became an ambassador to promote awareness of lysosomal storage diseases. As of 2015, he is the treasurer of Nadigar Sangam.
