Today is the birthday of senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani. He has turned 93. LK Advani was born in a Hindu business family in Karachi to Advani and Giani Devi. He completed his early schooling from St. Patrick's High School Karachi and then enrolled in Government College Hyderabad Sindh. His family moved to India during Partition and settled in Mumbai, where he graduated in law from Government Law College, Bombay University, where he became friends with Diwan Parmanand Gangwani and was bestowed by Ram Jethmalani and AK Brohi. 

LK Advani married Kamala Advani (1932–2016) in February 1965. He has a son, Jayant, and a daughter, Pratibha. Pratibha Advani produces TV serial and also supports her father in his political activities. His wife died on 6 April 2016. Despite no longer an MP, Advani stays in an official bungalow in Delhi for security reasons until June 2019.

Advani joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 1941 as a 14-year-old boy. He became a 'pracharak' (full-time worker) of the Karachi branch and developed many Shakuns. After Partition, Advani was sent to Rajasthan as a Matsya-Alwar campaigner, witnessing communal violence followed by ethnic violence. He worked till 1952 in Alwar, Bharatpur, Kota, Bundi and Jhalawar districts.
