In Mumbai, there are thousands of youths come to Bollywood with a dream of establishing themselves and leaving their homes. There are only a few of them whose dreams turn into reality and the rest of the people come back to their homes. If it comes to Bollywood's music industry, Mohammad Rafi is the rarest diamond whose shine can never be reduced. Mohammad Rafi was born at Haji Ali Mohammad's house in Kotla Sultan Singh, a village near Amritsar. Since childhood, he was very fond of singing. In his childhood, Rafi Saheb used to imitate the dialects spoken by fakir who roamed the village.

Rafi Saheb's elder brother Mohammad Deen had a friend named Abdul Hameed. He was the first to recognize Rafi's talent and encouraged him to sing. Hameed also explained Rafi Saheb's family members and thus came to Mumbai with Rafi. Rafi Saheb sang the first song for the Punjabi film Gul Baloch. The film was released in 1944 and this year All India Radio Lahore invited him to work here. Famous musician Naushad first gave him the opportunity to sing in the film 'Aap', and then Rafi made his place n the hearts of the people.

The great actor Dilip Kumar had also said that no one had ever seen Rafi Saheb being offended by anyone, he had no ego, he was a simple man with a great heart. Rafi Saheb was very generous. He sent money orders to a widow woman living in her neighbourhood every month for many years. When the widow woman stopped getting the money order, she went to the post office and then she came to know that Rafi Saheb used to send her the money order and now he is no more. Rafi Saheb sang 26000 songs depicting 517 different moods and occasions during his entire career and sang songs in almost every provincial language.

Rafi Saheb learnt English from Harendra Nath Chattopadhyay and also sang 2 songs in English. Manna Dey used to say that he Kishore da and other singers always fought for the number two chair because Mohammad Rafi was always enthroned in the number one chair. R. D. Burman once said, "When my song was recording, Rafi Saheb brought pudding from the market and we all sat together and ate it". In 1975, Rafi Saheb went to Kabul and there he also sang some duet songs with some Persian solo and Afghan women singer district.
