Lucknow: Today is the 83rd birth anniversary of Samajwadi Party patron and former CM Mulayam Singh Yadav. Yes, Mulayam Singh was born today, November 22, 1939.

Some time ago, the issue of Rama's birthplace was in the news all over the country. The heat in the politics had increased even more about whether a Ram temple would be built in Ayodhya or a mosque would be built. The hearing on the Ramjanmabhoomi case was postponed to January 2019 by the country's highest court. There were several agitations over Rama's birthplace and there was a movement in which Mulayam Singh Yadav, a former CM of Uttar Pradesh, took a decision that made him known as Mullah Mulayam.

32 years ago today, the saints were going to Ayodhya for the construction of the Ram temple and the crowd of their devotees was also reaching Ayodhya. Mulayam Singh Yadav, who was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh at that time, had imposed a curfew in Ayodhya. Due to this, the devotees of Lord Ram were not allowed to go to Ayodhya. The police were barricaded around the Babri Masjid. Seeing all this, the crowd of karsevaks became uncontrollable and on 30 October 1990, the police opened fire on the karsevaks, in which five karsevaks died. Angry karsevaks reached Hanuman Garhi in Ayodhya on November 2, 1990, in thousands. The place was close to the Babri Masjid. As soon as the karsevaks reached there, the police opened fire on them, killing about 1.5 dozen karsevaks. The servants were led by Uma Bharti, Ashok Singhal and Swami Vamdev.

Mulayam Singh Yadav is said to have ordered the firing on these karsevaks. It was because of ordering such firing on karsevaks that Mulayam Singh came to be called Mullah Mulayam. He came to be known for Muslim appeasement and was considered anti-Hindu. Though Mulayam Singh termed it as a big mistake nearly 23 years after the incident, his stains have hit his daman till date and even today Mulayam Singh is called Mullah Mulayam.  There was a lot of condemnation of the police firing and as a result, the Babri Masjid was demolished in November 1992, two years later, led by furious Hindu leaders. Mulayam Singh had lost badly in the subsequent elections.
