Parikshit Sahni was born on 1 January 1944. He is an Indian film and television actor, best known for playing the lead roles in the TV series barrister Vinod, Gul Gulshan Gulfam (Doordarshan) and Gatha (Star Plus). He has also appeared in Rajkumar Hirani's three blockbuster films Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots and PK.

He is the son of famous actor Balraj Sahni and nephew of writer Bhishma Sahni. Parikshit Sahni's parents were both theatre and film artists, though her mother acted in only a few films before her death in 1947.

On the advice of his uncle Bhishma Sahni, Parikshit Sahni was sent by his father to Moscow to attend a five-year course in architecture. However, since he was poor in mathematics, he was advised to take admission in the Cinema Institute. He cleared the aptitude test and joined a five-year course in film direction at Moscow Cinema Institute. He returned in 1966 and began his film career in India. According to media reports, he was a good friend of late actor Sanjeev Kumar. Parikshit also changed his screen name to Ajay Sahni, who eventually relied on his own name a few years later during the shooting of his 1968 film Anokhi Rawat, at the suggestion of Sanjeev Kumar.
