CHENNAI: Harassment by loan app 'sharks', Chennai youth commits suicide - Yes, a 23-year-old software worker from Chennai reportedly committed suicide on Tuesday, October 4, after he was allegedly harassed by loan app operators even after the dues were settled.
Narendran was found in his chamber, hanging from the ceiling. According to the MGR Nagar police, the deceased's family said that even after he paid back the Rs 33,000 he had borrowed from the lending app, he continued to be harassed by the app's owners.
According to the police, Narendran borrowed Rs 50,000 from his family and paid off the loan application, but even after this, the operators demanded an additional Rs 3,3000 and verbally threatened and abused him.
His friends and family received notifications from the loan app operators informing them that he had not paid back their money.
According to an official at the MGR Nagar police station, they are looking into many lending apps that were discovered on his phone.
In Tamil Nadu, a number of people have dued as a result of harassment and extortion by lending app providers.
