Chandigarh: A case of harassment of a woman has come to light after first claiming herself to be a Hindu and marrying fraudulently and later demanding dowry. The police have initiated further action by registering a case against six accused, including the husband of the in-laws, on the complaint of the victim woman. The victim woman has stated in the complaint that she was fraudulently married in 2013 to Sahil alias Mohammad Sharif. Because the boy, believing himself to be a Hindu, got married in Ropar court and lived in his house in Ropar.

Later, when she started living with his family, she came to know that the young man is from a Muslim family. The victim said in the complaint that only a few days after the wedding, her mother-in-law Bano, Nand Nikki, Sassoon Nisa, Khairul Nisa, Kabul Nisa started harassing her for dowry. With this, he started asking for two lakh rupees, but when he told that he could not give so much, then the in-laws started fighting with him.

Even her sister-in-law and her husband used to come to her in-laws and torture her and threatened to kill her. The victim said in the complaint that when the in-laws tried to strangle her, she came to her maternal home after saving her life. She has been living in her maternal home for the last five months.
