Have you ever cook Upma from 'Leftover Chapatis'

Before throwing out your leftover chapattis, just read out the recipe of UPMA and have a delicious breakfast !

Ingredients:

  • Left over chapattis- 2-3
  • Onions-chopped fine-1
  • Green chillies-chopped (use more to make it more spicy)-1
  • Tomatoes- chopped fine-1
  • Groundnuts- A handful
  • Quick cooking Oats- (my addition and totally optional) 1/2 cup
  • Oil 2tsp
  • Mustard seeds 1tsp
  • Cumin seeds 1tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Asafoetida a pinch
  • Coriander leaves- chopped fine for garnish

Steps:

  1. Tear the leftover chapatis into small pieces.You can even grind it in a mixie to tiny bits.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida and groundnuts after the mustard pops.
  3. Add the green chillies and onions and saute for a minute.
  4. Add the tomatoes followed by turmeric powder and salt.
  5. When the tomatoes cook, add the pieces of chapatis and oats if adding.Mix well.
  6. Close the lid and allow it to cook for 2 minutes.
  7. Garnish with finely chopped coriander.
  8. Serve hot.
