Bengaluru: On Friday in a recent controversy, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has accused the Election Commission of targeting him. This comes after the CM’s convoy was stopped by EC officials during a routine search but nothing incriminating was found. Apart from searching Kumaraswamy's Range Rover, the three-member EC team also conducted the search of other vehicles which were part of the CM’s convoy going to Hassan to campaign for Prajwal Gowda of the ruling Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S).

Here it is to be noted that Prajwal is Kumaraswamy's nephew and son of state PWD Minster HD Ravenna. The EC officials conducted this routine search at the Channarayapatna check-post on the Bengaluru-Hassan highway. We daily check vehicles of all political parties, their leaders and candidates to ensure they observe the Model Code of Conduct, told Election Commission official NS Darshan to IANS and said the vehicle was allowed to cross the check-post as nothing incriminating was found in the dicky and open spaces.

However, it is found that Kumaraswamy had recently sought intervention from the Election Commission to stop the Income Tax department raids on contractors and businessmen allegedly connected with the ruling JD-S and Congress, reported IANS. The CM also staged a demonstration in front of the IT department office along with Congress leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara, Siddaramaiah and Congress state unit President Dinesh Gundu Rao. Calling the raids an attempt to threaten the allies and to instil fear in the hearts of the party workers Kumaraswamy urged the EC to stop this harassment.
