The baby usually stays in the womb for 40 weeks. Due to his premature birth, it gets less time to develop in the womb. So it often has complex medical problems. The reason for the premature birth of the child is not clear.

Dietary problems: Premature babies are vulnerable to sucking and swallowing the baby's reflexes, which makes it difficult for them to get their diet.

Decreased body temperature: Due to the small size, transparent and delicate skin, the body temperature of such a child is reduced and a lot of body fluid is lost through the skin due to which there is a lack of water in the child. Due to low temperature, it has difficulty in breathing and blood sugar level is low. Such a child needs extra warmth, which is given by an incubator.

Breathing problem: Due to immature lungs and the brain, it can have difficulty in breathing. The long pause in the breathing process is called apnea, which is caused by the immature brain.

Asfixia: The infant does not start breathing immediately after birth, so it needs artificial breathing.

Infection: Serious complications develop early in a premature baby such as bloodstream infection (sepsis). These types of infections are caused by the child's underdeveloped immune system.

Heart problems: Having a hole in the heart (PDA - patent ductus arteriosus) makes breathing difficult. This can lead to hypotension (low blood pressure) and in some cases also cause heart failure.

Blood problems: Such a child is also at risk of blood-related problems. Such as anemia (decreased hemoglobin) and infant jaundice. Due to these, the child often needs a blood transfusion and phototherapy light.

Gastrointestinal problems: The gastrointestinal system of a premature baby can be immature. The sooner the child is born, the higher the risk of developing necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). This critical condition begins in premature babies when they start feeding. Babies who only breastfeed are at very low risk of developing NEC.

Brain problems: Such a child is also at risk of bleeding in the brain, which is called intraventricular hemorrhage. Most hemorrhages are light and recover after short-term effects.
