Health experts and celebrities have urged the government to prohibit tobacco product advertisements immediately. They also asked the Centre to ensure that tobacco control laws and policies are strengthened and enforced properly on the eve of World No Tobacco Day.

Prominent epidemiologist and public health specialist Chandrakant Lahariya said that Children and non-tobacco users visit the point of sale (POS) and are at risk of being addicted, and allowing relaxation at the POS is like encouraging a tobacco pandemic.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, he also brought to the attention of the authorities the tobacco threat to the public's health. During the pandemic, he referenced several studies that showed how cigarette users became vulnerable to the lethal sickness. "Every life is valuable, and tobacco-related diseases claim the lives of 1.3 million Indians each year. Apart from cancer, tobacco use is linked to a slew of chronic and life-threatening illnesses, including lung disease, cardiovascular disease, and stroke, to mention a few," he stated.
