Health Secy to chair meeting with states on COVID-19 situation

New Delhi: Rajesh Bhushan, the union health secretary, will preside over a meeting with states via video conference today to discuss the COVID-19 issue and vaccination, according to sources on Tuesday.

Earlier, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, evaluated the COVID and immunisation situations in the nation last week on June 23.

Mandaviya suggested in a high-level meeting that the Covid situation in the nation be rigorously monitored, with an emphasis on the senior population's vaccination, school-age children's vaccination, surveillance, and genome sequencing.

Over the past few weeks, India has seen a large number of COVID-19 cases. More than 1,000 cases are reported every day in states like Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Gujarat.

The Union Minister emphasised the importance of concentrating on the districts reporting a high case positivity rate and doing adequate testing (with a larger proportion of RTPCR) and efficient Covid-19 surveillance to assess and control the spread of infection as soon as possible.

Mandaviya gave the officials the order to maintain their attention on monitoring and whole-genome sequencing (WGS), which is used to look for any potential mutations. Additionally, he oversaw the tracking of COVID19 and SARI/ILI cases-related hospitalizations.  He urged people to get vaccinated more quickly, including getting booster shots in areas with plenty of cases. He directed, "Let there be no vaccine wastage while focusing on expediting vaccination among the eligible and vulnerable populations, as there are ample vaccine doses available."
