New Delhi: The hearing on the bail plea of Delhi riot accused and JNU alumnus Sharjeel Imam has been completed in Delhi's Kakadaduma court. Both sides presented their arguments to Additional Sessions, Judge Amitabh Rawat. The court has asked both sides to file their arguments in writing.

During the hearing, advocate Tanveer Ahmed Mir, on behalf of Sharjeel Imam, said that a man graduates from Bombay IIT. He is offered a good job, yet he quits his job and studies modern history. He said it was his own decision. Mir said Kedarnath's decision needs to be interpreted. In which sedition is explained in IPC. We want to follow English law, where Indians did not have the freedom to rise.

Mir further said that Delhi Police is saying that starting a speech from Assalam-o-Alaikum meant sedition. He questioned, "Would the charges have ended if the accused had started his speech from good morning?" Advocate Mir said the prosecution should not have the freedom to draw any conclusions of its own free will. We sue a person not just because of the law but on the basis of facts. In his speech, Sharjeel Imam talked about cutting Assam out of India and making it a separate country, during which the entire crowd was listening carefully to him, even as no one objected to the fragmenting of India.
