Lucknow: Tragedy struck on the Bareilly-Nainital highway near Bhojipura in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday night when a collision between a car and a truck resulted in the death of eight individuals, including a child. The victims, who were returning from a wedding, were unable to escape the car as it was centrally locked, leading to a fatal outcome.

The incident occurred when the car, identified as a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, collided with a truck carrying sand gravel from Uttarakhand. The collision caused one of the car's tires to burst after hitting the truck's dumper, causing the vehicle to veer off the opposite side of the highway. Tragically, the car got entangled with the truck and caught fire, leaving the occupants with no means of escape due to the central locking system.

Bareilly SSP Ghule Sushil Chandrabhan provided details of the incident, stating, "Near Bhojipura, an accident occurred on the highway... A car collided with a truck. The car got dragged and then caught fire... The car was centrally locked, hence the people inside the car lost their lives due to the fire. The bodies have been taken out. There are 7 adults and one child. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and further action is underway."

The authorities are currently working to inform the families of the deceased about the tragic incident. Additionally, a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing.

This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety measures and the potential risks associated with certain vehicle features, such as central locking systems, especially in emergency situations. The community is left in shock and grief as they come to terms with the loss of eight lives in this devastating accident.
