Gangtok: Six tourists have lost their lives in a dangerous avalanche in Sikkim. The avalanche happened on the road connecting Gangtok and Nathu La Pass at around 12.20 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. A total of 80 tourists were trapped in the avalanche, out of which 30 were rescued until 3 p.m. At the same time, 50 tourists are still stranded.
A rescue operation is being conducted to evacuate these people from there. Sikkim Police Inspector General (Check Post) Sonam Tenzing Bhutia has informed that the dead include four men, a woman, and a child. So far, none of them have been identified. Along with the army, state police and local volunteers are also involved in the rescue operation.
As per reports, as of 3 p.m., 30 of the 80 stranded tourists had been rescued. At the same time, 50 tourists are still trapped in the snow. All the evacuated tourists have been admitted to various hospitals in the state capital, Gangtok. All these are being treated here.
