According to ET news reports, Sudarshan Reddy, a Hyderabad-based resident, had bought Maruti Alto from Maruti dealer Varun Motors in July 2014. In six months, however, the car began to face problems. His engine also started sounding, the rear door lock lever broke, the car's horn broke, even the front windshield cracked. But the company tried to fix Horn instead of replacing the old Horn instead of putting a new horn.

In this case, Reddy claimed that the next day when he got to work, the engine started to sound again and Horn stopped working. He claimed that due to bad horns, he had to drive slowly and that he had an accident. According to Reddy, slow driving gave him less mileage and had to get out early at work and arrive home late at night. When Maruti Suzuki and Varun Motors failed to rectify the problem, they took shelter at the District Consumer Forum and sought compensation. On the other hand, the Maruti representative, in his reply to the court, said that Sudarshan did not file any complaint regarding Horn's failure to do so, only to say that the horn was bad.
