KATHMANDU : The horrific fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon in the office building of Subishu, an internet service provider based in Baluwatar, Nepal, destroyed property worth about 500 million Nepalese rupees. It is worth over Rs 31 crore in the Indian currency. According to the local media, the accident took place at around 1 p.m. About 200 people were present at the building when the fire broke out, which was evacuated safely.

The fire in a barrel of petrol inside the building is said to be the main cause. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shyam Gyawali of the Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari, told media that there were 200 people in the building at the time of the incident. All were evacuated safely and no one was hurt. We suspect that the leakage of fuel from the barrel of the petro-product in the building was the cause of the explosion that was connected to the building.

According to an estimate, the barrel had about two thousand litres of diesel, which was kept to run the generator. The building is located only a kilometre from the official residence of Nepal's PM KP Sharma Oli. Armed police force, Nepal Police and Nepal Army personnel have been deployed on the spot following the incident and the fire has been extinguished.
