Thiruvandndapuram: Persistent heavy rainfall persists across various regions of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, as per reports from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD forecasts a likelihood of heavy downpours in select areas of Kerala until November 24.

Expecting the forecasted heavy rains, the Tamil Nadu government has taken precautionary measures by mandating the closure of all government and private schools today in districts including Thirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Viruthunagar, Pudhukottai, and Niligiri.

Earlier, the IMD had raised a red alert specifically for the Pathanamthitta district in Kerala on November 22. Responding to this warning, Pathanamthitta Collector A Shibu issued directives prohibiting night-time travel from 7.00 pm to 6.00 am, as well as restricting tourist activities like kayaking and boating in the hilly areas of Pathanamthitta district until November 24.

This precautionary measure aims to mitigate potential risks associated with heavy and sustained rainfall, including localized flooding, mudslides, and landslides in the region.
