Many parts of the country are currently receiving heavy and unprecedented rainfall. In Kerala, 30 people have died in the last two days due to the highest rainfall. In Uttarakhand, 23 persons have lost their lives. Despite heavy rains, it does not seem to be providing relief soon. According to the MET department, many states may receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday. In Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, snowfall is expected on October 23. The MET department has issued an orange alert for 11 cities in Kerala. An orange alert has also been sounded in 12 districts for Thursday. An orange alert means that rainfall can range from 6 to 20 cm.

The same dams have been opened in Kerala to avoid flood-like situations due to excessive rainfall. In addition, in many districts, the local administration has asked the people living in the lower reaches to shift to relief camps. The Minister said that preparations have been made to remove the persons living on the banks of river Pampa. At present, 83 camps have been set up in the district in which more than 2,000 people are living. He said people need not panic. Most of the 10 dams for which red alert has been issued are in Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Thrissur districts including Kaki, Sholayar, Matupatti, Mujiyar, Kundala and Picchi. In addition, an orange alert has been issued for eight other dams.

In addition, the MET department has also predicted rain in the southern parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karnataka. The estimate has been expressed from 20th to 23rd October.
