New Delhi: Heavy rains have been a disaster in the country for several days. Heavy rain from north to east and south to west has created flood like situation. A red alert was issued in several states as the situation went unchecked. Several states including Kerala, Rajasthan, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh are involved. Kerala has suffered the most loss of life and property due to floods. While 111 people have died. In Rajasthan, five people have lost their lives.
In Kerala, 31 people are still missing due to rain and floods. However, rescue operations have been intensified after the rain stopped. The Met department has issued a red alert on Friday forecasting heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh. In Himachal Pradesh, three people were killed in rain and landslides on Friday. In Rajasthan, continuous rain has created flood situation in Harouti area of the state. An official said, the Met department has issued a red alert for Jodhpur, Nagaur and Pali.
The Army has been alerted here. Kota, Baran, Bhilwara, Jhalawar and Bundi received 160 mm of rain on Thursday. On the other hand, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has met PM Modi and demanded Rs 3000 crore for flood relief work. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a positive stand on his demand and assured to help. Karnataka is also reeling under severe flood due to heavy rain. This is considered to be the deadliest flood in the last 108 years. So far 62 people have died.
