Chennai: On Friday, November 19, nine people were killed in Pernambet, Tamil Nadu's Vellore district, after the house they were staying in collapsed due to heavy rain.

Four women, four children, and one man were among those who died. the house collapsed when the family was fast sleeping. Firefighters and police officers reportedly rushed to the scene and evacuated the injured. Eight people were injured in the accident and they are being treated at the Peranmbet Government Hospital, according to reports from the source. The bodies are being examined at the Peranmbet Government Hospital.

People residing on the banks of a river near Pernampet in the Vellore district were used to sleep in their neighbours' concrete house when the river was in spate, according to police. More than a dozen people slept in the residence on Thursday night, the reports add.
