Mumbai: Heavy rains have disrupted normal life in Mumbai. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Mumbai due to rain. Train and bus services across the city have been badly affected. Several parts of Mumbai including Kurla, Chembur, Sion, Dadar and Andheri received heavy rainfall.
An official said that the Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a yellow alert along with an orange alert, predicting heavy rainfall at some places in the city on July 1 and 2. Municipal officials said that due to the first heavy rain of the season on Thursday, waterlogging was seen in several low-lying areas.
In areas like Hindmata, Parel, Kalachowkie, Haji Ali, Dockyard Road, Gandhi Market and Bandra, road traffic either slowed down or stopped at many places due to waterlogging on several roads. Due to the heavy inflow of water and floods, the BMC closed the Andheri Metro in the western suburbs for traffic. Due to heavy rains, many areas were inundated. In many places, people were seen passing through knee-deep water and many motorists were stuck in the jam for hours. According to official data, the city received 119.09 mm of rain on Thursday from 8 am to 8 pm, the western suburbs received 78.69 mm and the eastern suburbs received 58.40 mm.
