New Delhi: The weather in the country's capital Delhi finally took a turn for the worse on Monday afternoon. Heavy rains hit many areas, bringing relief from the heat and humidity that have been prevailing for the past several days. The temperature has recorded a fall due to the torrential rains. It rained heavily in many parts of Delhi. In the video that emerged people were seen standing under the foot-over bridge to avoid getting drenched. At the same time, the weather became pleasant due to heavy rain at India Gate.

The monsoon hit Delhi on June 30 last month, but there has been no more rain since then. The MET department (IMD) is also struggling to predict accurately about the rain. Experts have admitted that making accurate forecasts is a difficult process. Delhi's primary meteorological centre, Safdarjung observatory, has recorded only 2.6 mm of rainfall in the last 10 days, which is very less. Since the onset of the monsoon season on June 1, there has been 144.3 mm of rainfall against the normal of 126.7 mm. From June 30- July 1, the IMD issued an orange alert after the first heavy rain of the season.

While on the one hand, Delhi-NCR is witnessing less rainfall activity, on the other hand, many states including Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, and Gujarat have been hit by rains. Several districts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, have been receiving torrential rains for the past several days. More than 70 people have lost their lives since the onset of the monsoon in the state, while 61 people have lost their lives in Gujarat. Many provinces of Gujarat have been inundated by the flood of rain.
