Heavy rain disrupts normal life in Mumbai and adjoining districts

Mumbai: Many parts of the country have been inundated by rain these days. Maharashtra is also included in this link. Heavy rains have caused several accidents in Mumbai, Pune and Palghar, killing four people. The water level of the Mithi river in Mumbai crossed the danger mark due to heavy rains. After this, 400 people have been shifted from residential areas to other places. 100 mm rain recorded in the last 24 hours. 

Local trains are also not running on several routes on Sunday due to water logging. The Pune-Mumbai railway line was also closed. Road and air traffic was also disrupted.

Flood like the situation is also reported in some areas of Nashik as the water of the Gapur Dam is released into the Godavari river.  In Pune, the district collector has advised people to remain alert after heavy rain. In Thane district, the Air Force rescued 58 people from their homes in Ju-Nandkhuri village.

58 villagers, including 16 children, were evacuated through Mi-17 helicopter. Besides, three naval teams are also in touch with the administration for rescue operations. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has thanked the Air Force for evacuating people immediately. In view of the prevailing situation in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar, six additional rescue teams have been sought from the NDRF.
