The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry's coastal regions, as well as Karaikal on November 14.
IMD indicates the likelihood of widespread heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours due to the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the South-West Bay of Bengal and the South Andaman Sea.
This weather phenomenon is expected to create a low-pressure area over the South-East Bay of Bengal, possibly resulting in a reduced pressure zone over the Bay of Bengal off South-West Bengal.
There's a possibility that this low-pressure area may move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a cyclonic circulation around November 16, centered over the West-Central Bay of Bengal.
The IMD's projections suggest a decrease in pressure over the South-East Bay of Bengal, potentially leading to a low-pressure zone over the Bay of Bengal off South-West Bengal by November 16. This could create a pressure imbalance, causing a concentration of the system into a cyclonic circulation.
In light of the continuous rainfall, authorities have declared holiday closures in schools across Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Viluppuram, Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, and Kadalur districts. The forecast anticipates heavy rainfall in at least 15 districts, including Chennai, on Tuesday. As Tamil Nadu braces for heavy rainfall, authorities are taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of residents. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.
