Heavy Rainfall: TN govt declares holiday for schools

CHENNAI:  due to heavy rainfall in some districts of Tamil Nadu, the state government has declared a holiday for students residing in Chennai and surrounding areas. Tamil Nadu schools in Tiruvallur and Uthukottai Taluks are already closed. As per the IMD forecasting, the situation is going to worsen in the upcoming days as cyclone - Mandous has hit the state.

In view of heavy to very heavy rains pounding some districts, the Tamil Nadu government has declared Tuesday also as a holiday in Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram and Kallakurichi schools.

The India Meteorological Department has already predicted more rains in the state till December 15. It has forecast a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal. Light to moderate rains in many places of the state with heavy rains at isolated places is expected over the state till Thursday.

Several districts are continuing to receive isolated and heavy rains even after Cyclone Mandous has crossed the Tamil Nadu coast. Squally weather with a wind velocity of 35 to 45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is expected over south-east and adjoining east central Arabian Sea on Tuesday over Tamil Nadu.
