CHENNAI:Â The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday prompted to close schools in the districts of Chennai, Ranipet, and Thiruvallur today due to the flooding caused by overnight rain in several parts of Chennai and the forecast for heavy rainfall.
In the coming days, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu, among other neighbouring districts, will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, according to the Regional Meteorological Department's projection for Chennai through November 2.
Due to the severe rainfall in the area, schools and institutions will continue to be closed in Chennai, Ranipet, and Thiruvallur. Schools will also continue to be closed in Vellore, Kanjipuram, Vilupuram, and Chengalpattu, according to the information provided by the various district collectors. Students at the Thirupathur School up through eighth grade will have a holiday, according to the Thirupathur District Collector.
Due to the intense overnight rain, people were observed wandering on flooded streets in many areas in Chennai and its surroundings.
At the Chennai - Nungambakkam station, significant precipitation totaling 112.5mm was reported from 8:00 pm on November 1 to 4:00 am on November 2.
The Met forecast indicates that isolated areas of heavy rain are likely to occur over the Tamil Nadu districts of Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul.
On Thursday it is predicted that light to moderate rain at many areas with isolated thunderstorm and lightning is expected to occur over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Karaikal region. There is a chance of isolated areas of heavy rain across the Tamil Nadu districts of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam.
On Friday, sporadic thunderstorms and lightning are anticipated throughout Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, with mild to moderate rain forecast in several locations. It is expected that isolated areas could see heavy rain over the following locations: Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur.  The RMC in Chennai, which declared the beginning of the Northeast monsoon on October 29, has predicted thunderstorms with lightning until November 4.
