Mumbai: During an important meeting on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 in Mumbai, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee have been accused of threatening a person and spreading hatred on religious grounds. The meeting was organized by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), which aimed to hear the views of various communities and organizations on this bill.

During the meeting, Gulshan Foundation member Irfan Ali Parizade supported the Modi government's Waqf Bill. Parizade says that after his support, Asaduddin Owaisi and Kalyan Banerjee expressed displeasure and gestured to get him out of the meeting. After this, the security guard pushed Parizade out and allegedly told him, "You are helping the Kafirs, we will see you." After this incident, Parizade filed a complaint against Owaisi and Banerjee at the Mumbai Airport Police Station, accusing them of spreading religious hatred and intimidation. The police have registered a case under sections 196, 115(2) and 351(2) of the Indian Penal Code.

The meeting was attended by Muslim scholars, intellectuals and representatives of several organisations and expressed their disagreement with the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. However, a controversy erupted when Parizade supported the bill. While some members of the Gulshan Foundation are supporting the bill, most Muslim organisations believe that the bill is against the interests of the community and will adversely affect their religious rights. Supporters of the bill argue that it is necessary for better management of waqf properties, while opponents say it will harm the social and religious rights of the Muslim community.
