Heritage Hotel to be built in Bhopal's historic Taj Mahal

Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department will develop the historic Taj Mahal of Bhopal, Benazir Mahal and Moti Mahal of Gwalior and Mahendra Bhawan of Panna as heritage hotels. Tourism Department's principal secretary Hariranjan Rao said on Thursday, "The Taj Mahal located in Bhopal has been given on lease to develop it as a heritage hotel. The tourism department has got the permission of Benazir Mahal of Bhopal, Moti Mahal of Gwalior and the owner of Panna's Mahendra Bhawan. They will also be developed in the form of heritage hotels."  

Rao said that renovation work in Govindgarh Fort in Rewa has started. By the end of 2019, this heritage hotel will be ready. Tender for Bhangar's Benazir Mahal is being issued. Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department is developing six Heritage properties as Hotel and Convention Center. These have been given on lease by issuing the tender to the Taj Mahal of Rajgarh Palace of Khajuraho, Govindgarh Fort of Rewa and Taj Mahal of Bhopal.

The tender will be issued soon for the Madhavgarh fort of Satna, Rajgarh Palace of Datia and the Benazir Palace of Bhopal. Apart from this, the tender will be issued soon to develop Mahendra Bhavan, Panna and Moti Mahal in Gwalior as a heritage hotel. 

He said that the tourism department has the Kyoto Fort of Rewa, Royal Hotel of Jabalpur, Vijayaraghavgarh Fort of Katni, Sheopur Fort of Sheopur, Narwar Fort of Shivpuri, Sarai Mandi of Luneera, Saralgarh Fort of Morena and Baldevgarh Fort of Heritage Property Bank of Tikamgarh. The process of developing them as a heritage hotel will continue.

Rao said that the number of tourists coming to Madhya Pradesh in the last 10 years has been continuously rising. All hotels are booking up to 90 percent during the season in Pachmarhi. In comparison, tourism hotels of other states remained vacant. Heritage Hotels will play an important role in promoting tourism in Madhya Pradesh. This step is likely to increase the number of tourists coming into the state by 25%.
