On Monday, Hero Electric said it has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rajasthan's state government for what it calls a giant plant for the nation's electric scooters. Hero Electric goes on to say that this factory would have a yearly output capacity of roughly two million units.

The planned Hero Electric factory would be situated on 170 acres in the Salarpur industrial sector, around 80 kilometres from Delhi, the nation's capital. With the use of robotics and cutting-edge machinery, production is expected to start as early as 2023. Utilizing sustainable and renewable energy sources is also highlighted here.

The business claims that the Hero Electric factory, which is being built at an estimated cost of more than 1,200 crores, will create both direct and indirect employment possibilities for locals. However, no information on the number of hires that would be made has been given. However, the business emphasises that by building this plant, Rajasthan would further solidify its reputation as a centre for EV production. “We are thankful to the Rajasthan government for their support in setting up our third greenfield plant that will help promote a circular economy in the Salarpur industrial area," said Naveen Munjal, MD at Hero Electric. "This mega manufacturing facility is part of our capacity enhancement to boost EV adoption across India. It will allow the state to spearhead clean mobility solution shift and promote ecological tourism practices."

Hero Electric, one of the market leaders for electric scooters, now has its main manufacturing site in Ludhiana, Punjab. Additionally, the company claims to be growing its over 850 sales and service facilities, which are dispersed around the nation. This is important since the company wants to add to the over five lakh devices that it has previously sold in the Indian market.
