CHENNAI: Hero Electric, a manufacturer of electric two-wheelers, announced on Monday that it would set up a Rs 1,200 crore, two million-unit-per-year massive electric vehicle (EV) production hub in Rajasthan.

At the Invest Rajasthan meeting, the company claimed to have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government.

The proposed unit, according to the company, will be located on 170 acres in the Salarpur Industrial Region and begin operations by the end of 2023.

"This enormous production facility is a component of our capacity expansion efforts to increase Electric vehicle adoption in India. It would enable the state to lead the transition to clean mobility solutions and encourage environmentally friendly tourism "Hero Electric's managing director, Naveen Munjal, said.

"Greenfield facility of this mega-size and large budget gives us the opportunity to introduce very energy efficient green manufacturing processes with a healthy blend of automation using robotic arms and the dexterous skills of the local artisan workforce, using the clean solar energy that state provides," CEO Sohinder Gill said.

The proposed facility would be able to manufacture all the current and upcoming Hero Electric two-wheelers, the company said in a statement.
