Guwahati: Heroin worth 8 crore rupees has been recovered from a suspected drug smuggler who was injured in an encounter with police in Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts of Assam. Officials said on Tuesday that an intelligence input was received that three or four people were smuggling drugs on Dimapur Sunday Bazar Road in Karbi Anglog district on Monday.

A police officer told the suspected smugglers opened fire on the police and in self defence police also opened fire. After the encounter, police found a man lying injured on the ground and found a 7.5 mm pistol and a bag from him. He was shot. 626 grams of heroin was recovered from the bag, which is worth Rs 6 crore in the market with ammunition.

The official revealed that a search is on to nab the rest of the people. Two people have fled towards Nagaland. Police said, a man was arrested in Nagaon district and 303 grams of heroinworth rupees 2 crore was found from his residence. The police had stopped his car.
