Islamic fundamentalists attack in Hindu village, devastated 80 houses

Dhaka: A few days before PM Narendra Modi's visit, radical group Qam-e-Islam in Bangladesh destroyed supporters nearly 80 houses in attacking a village of Hindus. Armed with sharp arms, these fanatics have not only been beaten up but also damaged by property. According to the information received, a young man had condemned the speech of Maulana Mufti Mamunul, joint secretary of the radical Islamist group, for opposing the installation of a statue of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Thousands of radical Muslims stormed Nagaon, a Hindu village in Shalla sub-district, on Wednesday after a young man criticised Maulana Mamunul on Facebook. The police had arrested the accused youth after the criticism of Maulana Mufti Mamunul was reported, but the matter could not be calmed down. Thousands of people from Kashipur, Nachni, Chandipur and other Muslim dominated villages stormed the houses of Hindus who reached Nagaon at 9 am in support of security leader Mamunul Haq. The mob of attackers was armed. Not only that, the security leaders in the area have been protesting since Tuesday night alleging that religious sentiments have been instigated in social media posts.

Police said, 70 to 80 houses of Hindus have been ransacked in the attack. Habibpur Union Chairman and Ivekananda Majumdar Bakul said that several houses in the village have been attacked. Many Hindus fled home to save their lives for fear of the attack. Taking advantage of this opportunity, people from the radical group Security attacked the village and looted several houses.
