Mumbai: Preparations to run the country's first Bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad are going on at full speed. But the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition filed by the Maharashtra government and the NHSRCL against the land acquisition that had begun in Mumbai's Vikhroli area. This petition was filed on behalf of Godrej & Boyce. It was said on behalf of the court that it is a project of national importance and for the benefit of the public. A division bench of Justice RD Dhanuka and Justice MM Sathaye said that the project is unique and public interest will take precedence over private interest.
Of the 508.17 km rail track between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, 21 km will be underground. The entry point of the underground tunnel falls on Godrej's land at Vikhroli. The state government and the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) had claimed that the entire project was being delayed because of the company. The government told the high court that the acquisition process for the entire stretch of the project has been completed except for the area located in the Vikhroli area of Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Company Limited.
The state government had told the court that in October last year, a compensation of Rs 264 crore had been given. Godrej & Boyce had filed the petition challenging the Maharashtra government's order dated September 15, 2022, to pay him compensation. The possibility of running this train on the track from 2026 is being expressed. Apart from this, an indication was also given by the Railway Minister regarding the fare of the Bullet train in the past. During a program, the Railway Minister had said in answer to a question that no decision has been taken regarding the fare of a Bullet train. But it will be accessible to the people. He said that the first AC will be made the base for the fare of the Bullet train. From this, it can be inferred that the fare for traveling on the Bullet train will be around First AC.
